Everything else
Fit and approach
Will you try to talk me out of, or back into, my faith?
No. I hold a stance of genuine neutrality. Whether you keep, leave, reshape, or set aside any belief is entirely yours to decide. My role is to protect your autonomy and support your well-being, never to steer your conclusions.
Do I have to have left my religion completely to come to therapy?
Not at all. Many people come while they're still questioning, still attending, or unsure what they believe. Some come and stay, and their faith stays too. Wherever you are in the process is a valid place to start.
Is this only for people from one specific religion?
No. I work with people from many high-control or high-demand traditions. The dynamics of control, fear, and identity loss tend to rhyme across very different groups, even when the theology does not.
You grew up LDS. Does that mean you have a position on it?
I have my own history, and I'm open about it, because for many people it means less explaining. It is not a position I bring into your session. Your relationship with your tradition is yours to work out, including if it looks nothing like mine.
What if I'm not sure anything that happened to me was "bad enough"?
That question is one of the most common reasons people wait years to call. You do not need to qualify for help. If it is affecting how you live, that is enough of a reason to talk about it.
Sessions and logistics
Do you offer telehealth, and where?
Yes, and only telehealth. Sessions are held over secure video for clients physically located in California. There is no in-person office.
What actually happens in a first session?
Mostly you talk and I listen. I'll ask what brought you in and what you're hoping for, and we'll cover some practical ground: confidentiality, how I work, what you want out of this. You are not expected to arrive with your story organised, and we will only talk about what you are comfortable talking about.
How often would we meet, and for how long?
One to two times per week to start, then less often as things settle. Sessions are about 53 minutes. How long the whole thing lasts is up to you.
What if I try it and it isn't the right fit?
Then it isn't, and that's useful information rather than a failure. Say so and I'll help you find someone who suits you better. Fit matters more than credentials in this work.
Do you work with couples?
Yes, including mixed-faith couples and couples where one partner is deconstructing and the other is not. The goal is to help both of you to feel heard and understood, strengthen bonds, and find a way through this particularly challenging path that works for you both.
Still holding a question this doesn't answer? Bring it to the free consultation, or write to me first. There is no wrong way to ask.
Whenever you're ready.
A free 15-minute consultation is just a conversation, a chance to see whether this feels like the right fit. There's no obligation to book anything after.
